The background

A new production site that had to run soon, within a limited connection

Holtkamp Horeca produces croquettes and patisserie for the hospitality sector and wanted to open a new site in Nieuw-Vennep. Getting production up and running at short notice was essential.

The site had only 55 kW of contracted grid capacity. For a production environment with this equipment that is too little, and without additional capacity production could not start.

The approach

Simulate first, then a system with several sources

Elektropartners mapped the expected consumption and the peak load and ran the figures through the Tibo simulation tool. On that basis Elektropartners determined the required battery capacity and designed a suitable energy system.

55 kW from the grid is too little to run production. It was supplemented with a substantial PV system and a back-up generator, with battery storage as a buffer: the sun generates during the day, the battery holds that for the production hours, and the generator steps in during winter when there is not enough sun. Tibo EMS controls the whole and charges the battery overnight within 55 kW, so it is ready for production in the morning.

The installed system:

  • Battery storage: 6 Huawei LUNA batteries, 108 kW
  • 200 solar panels on the roof
  • A back-up generator for the winter period
  • Tibo EMS for the control

“We first looked at the expected energy consumption and the peak loads. On that basis we determined the required battery capacity. With the battery, the solar panels and the generator, you need a conductor that sets the right priorities, and that is Tibo EMS.”

— Daniël Keegstra, Elektropartners

The results

Production within 55 kW , without waiting for a grid upgrade

With this system Holtkamp Horeca can produce at the new site within the existing 55 kW. Solar, battery and generator together cover the production demand, controlled by Tibo EMS.

In day-to-day operation this means:

  • Production within the existing 55 kW
  • The battery charges overnight within 55 kW and is ready for production in the morning
  • Peak load limited through smart control
  • Solar, battery, generator and consumption as one system, controlled by Tibo EMS

“With Tibo EMS, energy storage batteries and solar panels we have set up a system that makes the best possible use of the available and generated power. This limits peak load, gets more out of the existing connection, and production can simply keep running.”

— Barry Gaal, Managing Director/Owner, Elektropartners
