Capacity constraints upon growth and sustainability.
Interflow, part of Royal BAM Group, designs, builds, validates and manages cleanrooms, operating theatres and Laminar Air Flow solutions, including high-quality gas, fluid and HVAC installations. The focus is on high standards of safety, reliability and sustainability.
Production at Interflow is growing and becoming further mechanised, while the ambition is to operate CO₂-neutrally. The existing grid connection did not provide sufficient capacity. A traditional upgrade would, in practice, have required the connection to be approximately three times larger, which was neither desirable nor feasible.
Integral approach to the energy management
From BAM’s perspective, the decision was made to take the site’s entire energy management into account integrally from the very start. The limited grid connection was therefore not treated as a constraint, but as the starting point for the design.
Together with Tibo Energy, all relevant energy consumers were modelled individually in the digital twin. Based on this, control parameters were aligned and an energy system was designed that closely matches the actual demand, without overdimensioning assets.
The realised system consists of:
- a battery energy storage system of approximately 600 kWh
- approximately 400 kWp of solar panels
- 10 charging points
- a heat pump installation for the entire site
The coordination and control of these components is handled by Tibo EMS.
“The main advantage of the collaboration with Tibo for our client Interflow is that we can guide them well through the optimal system configuration, even before it is built. In addition, we as BAM notice that Tibo Energy adapts well to our needs, ranging from the implementation of a dynamic energy contract to the preparation for control under a capacity-limiting contract.” — Royal BAM Group
Functioning within a capacity-limiting contract
The production and decarbonisation ambitions of Interflow have been realised within the existing grid connection, where in a traditional situation a connection with approximately three times as much capacity would have been required.
In daily operations, this results in:
- Functioning within a capacity limiting contract, as in our project for Enexis.
- No grid connection upgrade required
- Limitation of peak load through coordinated control of generation, storage and consumption
- With improved forecasts and a dynamic energy contract, energy use is further optimised
Simulation and Realtime Optimisation in one platform. And the ROI? We calculate it upfront.
