Electrification is reshaping the European energy market at speed. The EU wants to raise the share of electricity in total energy consumption from 24% to 32% by 2030, and to 46% by 2040. For businesses that means grid congestion, volatile prices and expanding regulation. The pressure builds as logistics and industry electrify their business parks further. The distribution network is the biggest bottleneck in all of this.

In the Netherlands, grid congestion has been a public problem for years. On a European scale, we see access to the grid slowing down clean energy and energy storage in the same way.

Our European ambition

We run over a hundred sites in the Netherlands. That base makes scaling across Europe possible, and Chris brings the experience for it from the tech and B2B SaaS sector. At FedEx, he built the product and tech team behind the rebuild of the global online shipping platform for TNT and FedEx, now used by hundreds of thousands of businesses. He led Relay42 to an exit.

“We want to take away the concerns businesses have about energy,” says Chris. “We have shown in the Netherlands that this can be done. Most companies in Europe still have that question open. Our ambition is for Tibo Energy to be the platform businesses across Europe rely on by 2030, so energy never again stands between a company and its growth.”

Remco focuses on smart grids

Remco stays closely involved and will work on the further build-out of our platform and smart grids.

“Over the past few years, Tibo Energy has grown from a simulation tool into a platform that hundreds of companies rely on every day,” says Remco. “With Europe committing further to electrification, we see a real opportunity to take the next step with Tibo. Chris brings the experience we need to scale Tibo across Europe. I am moving on with plenty of energy to develop our offering around smart grids and energy hubs. One of the most exciting growth segments Tibo is betting on.”
